Oishii! – Japan Day 08

Today would mark Christmas day itself! And although it was Christmas day, we were not taking any breaks in our Japan trip. We started off the day with a trip to Komeda’s Coffee for an early breakfast, as we were going to the Toyota Factory for a tour of their facilities. On the way there, we were lucky that we were up early, as our original way of reaching the Toyota factory had to be detoured due to an accident on the train tracks. The food however was nice, and we headed off invigorated for the start of our day.

On the way to the Toyota museum, I found one of the vending machines that sold Kirin Lemon, the soft drink that I had been looking for since our first day in Takayama. It was a pleasant surprise and a refreshing one for sure as we took the 15 minute walk to the entrance of the factory tour. Here, in the holding area, they showcased current Toyota models as well as Lexus ones, together with their Gazoo Racing cars. During the tour, the guide informed us that as it was Christmas, they have prepared some small goodie bags for us. This was extremely surprising, seeing that the tour itself was free as well. However boring the tour was for Ashley, it was something that I thoroughly enjoyed, as we walked above an active factory floor, seeing most of the stations needed to actually manufacture the cars that people drive.

For lunch , we headed to one of the biggest Curry Rice chains in Japan, and indeed as well as in Singapore. CoCo Ichibanya, however it was actually our introduction to the chain as we have no tried it in Singapore before. It was simply amazing that such a “normal” food stall in Japan could be of such great quality. The curry was mildly sweet and super spicy if you chose a higher level of spice. It was delicious.

Heading back into the building, we also found tons of fresh seafood and sushi for sale, which we would have loved to try, if we weren’t so full of food already! We seem to always have this problem while on our holidays.

Eventually, before heading back to Nagoya proper, we headed to SPORT bowling, where we were finally able to pickup the hand guards that we were hunting for. We also picked up a Sweep Hard spare ball that we were also eyeing out for before hand.

Of course, I could not resist another visit to BIC camera before heading to dinner (again to the dismay of everyone else). Although I ended up not buying anything during this trip to Japan, it was amazingly fun just to look around the shop as well. For dinner, we headed to (insert name here) for another round of Unagi. However this round of dinner disappointed me as the rice was not up to standard. It simply wasn’t as tasty as other places we had before in this trip.

With this, we were back at the hotel, admiring what was inside our Toyota goodie bags, Estima-shaped cookies.
