NAG Masters 2018
After 3 days of competition for the National Age Group , the Masters is finally here. Ash finished 4th in All Events and qualified for the NAG Masters (16 March 2018)
Training the evening before with her coach, they were working mostly on tempo and release. Also took the opportunity to test most of her bowling balls. During training, Ash broke her skin on her finger and had to put an extra skin patch. We would have to put moisturizer and Argasol that night.
As the Masters will start at 10AM and to report by 9.30AM, we went to Toh Yi Hawker Centre for breakfast instead of the usual light breakfast in the car. We reached Temasek Club before 9AM with plenty of time to spare to register for the Masters. (and also time for Ash to put on her tapes and patches and warm up)
The payment ($70) for the Masters is being paid by her school.
When the Lane Assigment was out, there was 2 surprises. One, her friend Isabelle will be on the same lane as her and two, everyone will switch lanes after every game (instead of every 2 games)
Ash will bowl in lanes 23,21,35,33,31,29,27,25
The 24 Under 12 Girls that qualified for the Masters.
Game 1 : Finished 118. Lowest score of the tournament for Ash. 2 Splits couple with missing simple spares totalling 7 open frames. Super Gate did not seems to be turning in.
Game 2 : The problem in Game 1 continues with Game 2. Although half changed to Hyroad (sanded 1000 Grit) but it also did not seem to be turning into the pocket and even causing more splits. Game 2 has 3 splits. I suggested to change ball to the coach but he said that Ash was not releasing the ball consistently. Howevr, sometimes I feel changing the ball could alter the ‘luck’ factor. Game 2 finished a weak 124
Game 3 : Changed the ball to Code Red. Not sure if it’s luck or Ash started releasing more consistently or the combination of ball/lanes but Game 3, Ash started striking and sparing. She had 2 open frames of back to back pins 3-9 and 2-8 both of which she only managed to pick off the front pins. Ash finished with 3 strikes and a total of 204.
After Game 3, one of her coaches drew the lines on his phone to remind her of the ‘shape’ of the lines to throw.
Game 4 : Finished strong with 3 strikes for 182. Open frames includes 2 back to back pin 2-8 pins and a split.
Game 5 : 3 open frames and no strikes. Total 156
Game 6 : 2 open including with 1 split. Luckily Ash converted a mini split 3-10 finishing with a good 177.
Game 7 : Started well with mostly spares but finished weak with a spilt on the 9th frame and a miss on the multiple spares in frame 10 resulting in 158
Game 8 : Althugh tired a bit now, Ash finished strong in the last game. Started with a split in frame 1. she finished a strong 186.
Ash finished with a credible average of 163.1 and finished in 6th position.
It was a good fight…this will be a good lesson especially for the first 2 games.
Since she is still 11 this year, there will be another chance next year’s NAG to do better.
Ash went to congratulate the winners. 1,2 and 4 are from the same academy.
NSRCC Academy by AOS did well. 6 of the Top 10 U12 girls are from the academy.
Well done NSRCC Academy by AOS !
