Go Big Or Go Home! – Day 04
We awoke from our sleep at 6am with our stomachs protesting. We have never tried such a lengthy layover and we were not sure which time zone our body clocks were working on. Nevertheless, we hopped out of bed and headed down to the breakfast area. Our stay here comes with free breakfast and we couldn’t wait to check it out.
As we were super early, we had the dining hall to ourselves. Ashley couldn’t contain her excitement and made a beeline for the Mickey Waffle maker. The waffles turned out good, in fact, they were better than the ones we had at Drury.
The breakfast had an interesting concept. There is no hot food but instead, the items were all prepacked and you can heat them up in the microwave. There’s also a great selection of cereals, yoghurt and fruits together with breads, bagels, muffins and doughnuts. Both hot and cold beverages are also available.
We were satisfied with the breakfast and decided to head to Best Buy in search of a replacement camera after our Sony RX100 mk4 stopped working last night.
We got into our Kia Sorento, which will be our car throughout our stay in Orlando. First, we made a stop at Target. We like it that in USA, some super stores are open for business as early as 6am. We love Target and Walmart and always make multiple trips to these stores in USA. We loaded up on some groceries and left.
With the help from our trustworthy Garmin, we arrived at Best Buy soon. While ZA and Jarod checked our the cameras, Ashley was awed by the Kindle. ZA could not decide on the camera as it would not be covered by warranty once we return to Singapore but a happy Ashley managed to convince daddy to get her the Kindle. It was an early Christmas present for her.
Our next stop is for lunch at The Catfish Place in St Cloud, Kissimmee. No matter what, we always have to route our trip around stopping to eat at this wonderful restaurant. The catfish and shrimp are hand breaded daily and out of this world. These come at wallet friendly prices too – at USD 18.49 for two meals from Monday to Wednesday. Once we were seated, we were served some crackers which are absolutely Ashley’s favourite. She will make sure that she takes the remaining crackers to go. Soon, our food arrived and we chowed them down as we were starving! I decided to try grits for the first time. Although I didn’t mind it, both ZA and Jarod passed. All the rest were as good as we remembered them to be.
After what had been an extremely satisfying lunch, we decided to head to Krispy Kreme. To think about it, we were pretty disgusting – to be able to think of food after a full meal. But that’s what vacation is all about, isn’t it? Once again, using our trustworthy Garmin, we found the outlet we visited 2 years back. This outlet makes the doughnuts freshly on the spot and they definitely tasted better than those from the Krispy Kreme kiosks. Jarod had hoped to buy the doughnuts only on 12.12 as it is National Doughnut Day but we can’t do it this trip as we will be in Walt Disney World by then. We remembered the incredible offer when we got them in Las Vegas last year – buy one dozen, get one dozen free. We almost ate them for breakfast, lunch and dinner!
We each chose our favourite doughnuts and headed back to the hotel for a rest. The friendly staff at the hotel chuckled as he saw us with our prized possession. He asked if we had gotten the hot ones and we didn’t understand. He explained that those are the ones freshly made and thankfully those were what we bought.
We rested while ZA thought about what to do with the camera till evening. We had plans lined up and proceeded to Disney Springs for the night time show. Strangely, we still preferred to refer to it as Downtown Disney. Disney Springs was hosting the first of its kind drone light show – Starbright Holidays which is a collaboration between Disney and Intel. This show marks the first time in the United States 300 show drones have flown at one time. We found a viewing spot at the waterfront on the Westside and waited patiently for the show to start. Through the 5-minute show, we were delighted by shooting star drones set to a specially orchestrated arrangement of classic holiday music. We were truly impressed and our photos and videos definitely did not do it justice. It was a delightful moment for us.
As Disney Springs was bustling with crowd, shoppers and diners thronged the area, we decided to leave. We were not exactly hungry and wanted a quiet and quick place to catch dinner. Off we went to Five Guys. Besides Carl’s Junior, this is another of our favourite burger joint in USA. We can’t get them here in Singapore. They serve really good burgers and fries.
After a hearty dinner, we retreated back to our hotel where Ashley enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace. And surprise! We have yet another package from Amazon awaiting us. This time, it is a Under Armour backpack which we have ordered for Jarod. The look on his face tells us that he really loves it!
