2017 marks the year we can be travelling as a family till Jarod fulfills his NS obligations. While discussing our travel plans, this is the one thing we all agreed we wanted to do. We did a Disney Cruise onboard Dream in 2014 and it had been a wonderful experience. Jarod is excited that he will get to visit Sweden, Finland and especially Russia. These are the lists of countries that he had been wanting to visit since his childhood years.

Well, the only barrier is of course the cost. Disney Cruises are amongst the most expensive in the industry. Disney Cruise undoubtedly offers an experience unrivaled. Its stateroom, rotational dining, free sodas, Broadway style productions, fireworks at sea, character interactions and impeccable service all adds to the Disney experience. However, having experienced the Disney magic at sea, there was no way we would settle for another cruise line to save a couple hundreds of dollars.

ZA and I had a discussion on which stateroom to book. We were priced out of the Verandah staterooms. Hence, we had to choose either Ocean View staterooms on Deck 1 or Deck 2(which tends to be noisy according to reviews) or an Inside stateroom on a higher deck. None of the options sounded ideal to us. It was by chance that I found out that there are SPR (Secret Porthole Rooms) on Disney Magic. These are rooms with a slightly obstructed Ocean View. There are only 6 of such rooms (ZA: out of 875 staterooms) on it and lo and behold, one was available – Stateroom 5520 on our sailing date! We googled the images posted by previous cruisers and it was the least obstructed view room. We could not pass up on this and booked it, solving our dilemma.

(ZA : SF can find amazing deals. Ocean View Staterooms for the price of inside stateroom. Only 2 rooms have the least obstructed view…see below. The bonus, the big port hole is low enough that we can sit down beside it or view it from the sofa. The normal and more expensive Ocean View rooms on Disney Magic have a higher port hole)

The next challenge was to find the flights since we will not have enough miles to redeem. Lufthansa was having this irresistible promotion to Copenhagen. It was priced slightly higher than Finnair but after reviewing Finnair, we decided against it as they were known to be overbooked. Therefore, we booked Lufthansa and selected seats on the upper deck of A380. We can’t wait for our Europe adventure!

Still believe in Magic?

Yes, I do…
