Bangkok 2005

Bangkok – 2005

We had been to Bangkok several times, including Jarod when he first took the air plane back in 2003. It was not our intention to visit Bangkok anytime soon.

We have just sold our flat in Serangoon and after intensive house hunting, we decided to purchase a unit at The Madeira. The purchase came with a free 3-day trip for 4 to Bangkok which was icing on the cake.

The package came with a 2 night stay at Baiyoke Sky Hotel. Soaring 88 stories above the famous Bangkok Pratunam, It also came with complimentary buffet breakfast and a visit to the floating market. While the exterior of the hotel is impressive, offering dynamic views of the city, the interior speaks a different story. It was rather dated and simple.

The weather in Bangkok is as scorching hot as ever, forcing us to retreat to the comfort of our air conditioned room. However, we did hunt all the malls for what Jarod calls ‘Bangkok-size’ die cast car to add on to his collection. We also visited our favourite mall, Mahboonkrong and had an unforgettable lunch at its food court. The Fried Oyster, Tom-Yum-Goong, Green Curry and Mango Sticky Rice left us wanting more!

We did not visit the floating market due to the sweltering heat. In fact, all we did was shopped and ate. On our return flight, we brought boxes of Mango Sticky Rice back from the airport and the taste still lingers! We have not been able to find something close in Singapore.
