Let The Memories Live Again! – Day 26

Today would be the final day of our holiday. We awoke early in the morning in the cool and windy San Francisco. We took the time to pack up all our stuff and headed downstairs. We quickly loaded up the car with our luggage and headed off for our short but hectic adventure in San Francisco. Of course, the first thing would be to visit the Golden Gate Bridge! This really has been a childhood memory come true, as when I was young, I used to play this game called Midtown Madness 2 on my first computer, where there was a map that featured the Golden Gate Bridge in all it’s glory, and I used to create massive police chases up and down that fabled bridge. Since then, I always wanted to see the bridge in person, and here it was right in front of us. We accidentally drove onto the bridge itself, but it was extremely surreal as it’s long cables and metallic red shined in the rising sun. It was truly an amazing experience. I also wrote an essay a few years ago about how a bridge doesn’t just link up 2 sides of the land, but rather, merges them. We snapped some photos with the bridge behind us, with me trying to imitate a post from one of my friends, taken just a few days before. We had a blast, but Ashley was getting too cold, so we decided to warm her up with some good ol’ breakfast.

We headed to Hollywood Cafe, where we got some hearty American Breakfast, which was cheap and good. The servings were good and the quality was superb. My favourite has to be the Hollywood Eggs, which had Bacon and Cheese over some scrambled eggs, it was delicious. The coffee, which was freshly brewed and free-flow, was also good, although my Mom found it quite weak to her liking, which was normal in the States in the first place. By the time we left, there was already a long queue forming. It was a small and cozy place that I hope we can visit again.

We then headed out to the pier, where we also got some Bread Bowl Chowder. We weren’t expecting any stalls to be open at this point of time, but there were, so we took the opportunity to have a taste of a San Francisco Icon. We then soon left in the car towards the hotel. We had dinner at Steaks and Shake in the airport before finally heading to the plane, and flying off back home.

After a short stopover in Seoul, we then boarded the flight back to Singapore. The flights were relatively boring and uneventful, but they were very smooth, which aided in our sleeping. We finally landed at home, where we collected our luggage and headed back home. As the flight had been slightly ruined by my Mom’s malfunctioning Audio Jack, we were given a $100 dollar voucher for anything onboard, so I took the opportunity to grab some Sennheiser Momentum In-Ears, to replace my aging Audio Technica IM-50s. We picked up the luggage at Changi, and took a cab home, where we were delighted to see our home again. What an adventure the past 26 days have been! The trip might be over, but the fun will never end.

(ZA : What a trip ! Fantastic planning by SF. Just fantastic. Now back at home – with the goodies)
