A Day I Lost My Temper – Written by Ashley

I remembered those days when Ashley was in the final year of kindergarten. We were laced with panic and feared that she could not read, let alone write. We were at our wits end and finally enrolled her in the phonics class- Read For Success where she learnt her phonics and blending anew. Slowly but surely, she began to read and became an independent reader before the start of her primary school journey,

Ashley has come a long way since and she also enjoys writing. This is a piece of her work, albeit written with help of a vocabulary list done in her enrichment class which I have enjoyed reading. The teacher has awarded her an A- for her work! Good job, baby!

A Day I Lost My Temper

“Paint brush, styrofoam …..” I muttered to myself as I prepared the materials needed for a project for a competition. I started to work on my project – a volcano. I had great confidence in my work.

Soon, my container of water became murky. I gingerly took it to the kitchen to change the water. I was so elated that I kept looking over my shoulder to look at my masterpiece as I walked to the door. My very mischievous brother, Ali peeped into my room and saw my volcano. As he wanted to take a closer look, he tip toed into the room. Curiosity got the better of him and he stretched out his hand to examine the work. All of a sudden, Ali tipped a container of paint. He felt terrified and tried to clean it up. Instead, he hit the volcano and it collapsed!

After awhile, I came back and I was irritated to see my brother in my room. I rushed forward and saw my volcano had crumbled to ruins! I was boiling with rage, I shook him by shoulder. “What have you done!” I screeched.

As soon as our parents heard the commotion, they dashed into the room as fast as they could. Although it was wrong on my brother’s part to mess up my project, I should not have shaken him so harshly. Our parents made us apologise to each other. I felt disappointed as I realised that I had to redo it.
