Primary School League 2018
Primary School League (PSL) Competition are normally held in Feb starting in early Feb or late Jan. It is played as a Team of 4 over 4 rounds (weeks) and a Master Event. Information for this year’s event was not published until Mid Jan. Also there were changes to the minimum number of Team players. This year it was a Trios League. Although you can put in as many as 5 names, only 3 players can play per ‘week’. And you need minimum of play/score of 2 weeks to qualify for the Masters based on your average for all games played.
There is a handicap system and Team events awards and a weekly Individual High Series award are based on the handicap system. Qualifying for Master and Weekly High Game Award are based on scratch. Ash goal are to get into the Masters. (Best 16 Average scores will qualify)

Choosing Team Mates :
Faustine’s Mom asked SF last year if Ash wanted to play together in National Age Group (NAG) but CHIJ Katong (KCP) normally sents to NAG, so SF suggested if KCP does not sent to PSL, then Ash and Faustine can play together. Faustine good friend Yi Hui whom Ash get to know while they bowl in Penang Pesta last year is also interested to join. Although they are from different schools, a team is formed.
We decided to have the minimum number (3) to a team as it is easier to just play all weeks rather than pick and choose which week to play and which week to sit out.
It may be at an advantage to play or sit out out depending on your standing to qualify for Masters but we decided that it is easier this way (to play all week) and there will be no conflict on who should play or sit out.
Choosing Team Name :
The girls are suppose to agree on the Team Name for the competition. A few names came up like Ultra Bowlers (Yi Hui) and X-Factor (SF). At the end X-SQUAD was chosen. Go X-SQUAD!
Yi Hui had ordered customized printed T-shirt for Ash and Faustine and the T-Shirt has the words ‘Keep Calm and Bowl On’ and the girls individual name on the sleeve.
The girls are in a good mood and looking forward to play as a Team.
Ash started the first game well. Only with 2 open frames and a strong finish (Turkey on 7-8-9), she scored 190 for game 1. Game 2 also with 2 open frames but only 1 strike resulting in a decent 168. 3rd game was a not-so-good 124 (5 open frames with four of them being splits).
Ash finished Week 1 with an average of 160.

Week 2 (4th Feb 2018)
The girls mood are upbeat but more subdued as their coach had mentioned that they were too happy and that had affected their concentration on Week 1 (The day before).
Ash started Game 1 well with a strike but followed by 3 open frames. She managed to finished strong with no open frames after that, managing a score of 159. 2nd Game was similar with open frames on 2,3,4 but she finished strong with no opens and 4 strikes, giving her a score of 176. Game 3 was better with 2 open frames. But with the miss on single pin 10 on frame 5, she close with 172.
Ash finished Week 2 with an average of 169.
With the 6 Games Average of 164, Ash is currently 4th in the Masters Qualifying.
Her teammates are also on the list. Yi Hui (9th) and Fautine (14th)

Week 3 (10th Feb 2018)
Ash had training on Thursday before the Saturday Week 3 event and her coach had tweak Ash to ‘straighten’ her neck during delivery. She was able to implement the changes and it seems to be working well except for the spares. She keep missing them when normally she is quite reliable with the spares. Apparently this change was affectin her spare as she felt ‘stiff’. So it decided for now, she will continue with the current delivery and only implement this change for the strike ball.
Week 3 X-SQUAD is schedule to play on Lane 37 and 38 with a ‘Bye’ team. Basically they will bowl the 2 lanes by themselves. There are 37 Teams participating and every week , one team will ‘play’ with the Bye Team. This means that the rhythm of the 3 games will be fast with minimal waiting.
The girls are upbeat and delighted that they will bowl by themselves and it was also Faustine 10th Birthday.
Game 1 started Spare, Open (Split), Spare. Then 4 strikes, Spare, and Double Strike and Ash finished strong with 223!
One of her coaches had advised that lane 38 was drier than lane 37 and she had adjusted accordingly.
This is her highest competition score in Singapore so far. (Her highest competition score is 245 during 2017 Milo All-Stars Competition in Malaysia)
We wondered if 223 will be good enough to win the Weekly Individual High Game (Scratch). Previous 2 weeks was won by Ashley Victoria Lok.
Ash finished Game 2 with 170 (2 Opens) and Game 3 with 159 (4 Opens). She finished with an average of 184 for Week 3.
We waited anxiously for the scores to be updated on the website.
When it finally did, Ash was delighted that she had indeed won the week 3 Weekly Individual High Game (Scratch).
Well done Ash!
With the 9 Games Average of 171, Ash is currently 4th in the Masters Qualifying.
Yi Hui (10th) and Faustine (15th) are also on the list.
Team Rank (with Handicap) is 9th
There is discussion whether or not the team should play or sit out the Week 4. Ash will play but will not mind if her teammates wants to sit out. Since Week 4 will be after Chinese New Year week on 24th Feb, we have time to discuss further on this.

Week 4 (24th Feb 2018)
After Chinese New Year break PSL resumes for the final week. It was decided that everyone will play for the final week. The current cut off average was at 152. Everyone will be fighting to get to the final 16 to play the Masters the next day.
Ash seems to be more comfortable with the ‘straightened’ neck for her sparing after CCA and training.
Week 4 : X-Squad is playing on Lanes 13 and 14 with her friends in Team Pin Breakers. They are in high spirits and the target was to qualify for the Masters the next day.
Game 1 started well with 3 spares but she missed the pin 10 on frame 4. Ended Game 1 with 164 due to missing 3 simple spares.
Game 2 is good and finished with 204. The 2nd above 2oo for the tournament. There was no open frames and Ash even converted 5-7 split on the 10th frame!
Game 3 started hot with 4 bagger but missed simple 2-4-5 on the fifth frame. Ash finished strong with 193. Her average for Week 4 is a good 187.
Her Team mates did well too and all of them qualified for the Masters!
Go X-Squad!
Ash qualified 4th with 175 Average over 4 weeks.
On to the Masters!
