PBC 2018 Youth Challenge Series 1

In order to built Ash’s 6 games stamina and Masters format experience, we decided to let her take part in the PBC (Plaza Bowlers Club) Youth Challenge in 2018. We registered for membership which is $20 for youth for a year and promptly registered her for the first 2 events. (11 Feb 2018 and 04 Mar 2018)

There is a registering fee of $30 for the 4 Youth Challenge Events and each event cost $55 to take part.

The Youth Challenge Series slightly changed from last years Series. There will be no qualifying points from the 4 Series to qualify for the Masters Event. This year , every Series itself is somewhat like a Master event by itself. Each Series has it’s own prize list as shown below.

However for Series 1 for under 12 Division, the 7th and 8th position will receive trophies but not the cash prize. (It will vary depending on the number of participants)

The oiling pattern for Series 1 (11 Feb) is Kegel High Street 44ft. This is similar to the Primary School League (PSL) Competition Oiling Pattern. Ash bowled the 3rd week Series PSL (3 games) just the day before at the same bowling alley (Temasek Club @ Rifle Range).

So it was surprised for her when her Storm Super Gate was over hooking during practice on both the starting lanes.
Moving left to compensate did not help and she decided to use her Storm Code Red but by then the short practice time is over. It has defintely not the same/similar pattern used the day before. Her lane mates also agreed.

Undaunted Ash proceeded with her decision to use the Code Red for the 1st Game. The first game was up and down and she even used her Storm Match Up Hybrid for 2 frames before settling down and finished with 150.
The second game using Code Red started with 2 open frames. Ash seems abit frustrated and we remind her what her coach said the day before about resetting yourself after bad shots and accept the fact that we are humans and humans make mistakes and bad throws.

She then steadies herself and resets. Frame 3 onwards there was no open frames and 6 strikes. She finished game 2 with 201. She finished the next 2 games with 169 and  174. After 4 games, she is currently 4th.

Ash finished the final 2 games with 176 and 174 giving her an average of 174.
With that score, she finished 4th !!! Yeah! we were so proud of her.
Not just because of the placing but because she were able to implement her coach’s advise mentally.

She was a little bit disappointed not to have place 3rd as the Total pinfall was the same but she lost on the tiebreaker. (Highest game).

Ash receiving 4th place trophy and cash $80.
Well done Ash!
